brush presets , tool presets.

historically, in photoshop, before mixer brush introduced, brushes ran on sole brush engine. enter mixer brush , in order perform intricate smearing , blending in combination bristle tips, separate brush engine required. bristle tips can used of normal brushes well, but, mixer brush needed it’s own engine run it’s varied functions. there 2 brush engines in photoshop, 1 brush presets, , 1 tool presets.

 

the brush presets not have ability save crucial mixer brush settings. tool preset saves in brush panel along with in option bar mixer brush such wetness, load, mix, flow, sample layers. these things specific mixer brush engine.

 

just think of tool presets having additional layer of saving information in order mixer brush work. helps explain of funny filename extensions in photoshop application subfolders. regular brushes end abbreviation of abr. , tool presets end tpl. added feature saving brush tool preset, color of brush saved well, extremely helpful. 

 

also, picking our last used brush saved tool preset, , same size used last. regular brushes designed default original size, switching size user preference. not time efficient while working on painting project. why prefer working tool preset brushes

 

make sure uncheck current tool box @ bottom of tool panel. enables of multiple tools show in “palette”. if have brushes, history brushes, smudge tools, blenders, etc., need see available. photoshop has show current tool selected default , disorienting see empty panel. you’ll think, “where did of tools go?” so. beware of tendency , deselect selection box.
