Typing a character with a subscript and a superscript

is possible character have both superscript , subscript? chemist , chemical formulas have both. can need occupy same position. example, type formula bicarbonate ion hco3-. highlight 3 , make subscript. next highlight – , make superscript. – should directly above 3 , using method, – moved on 1 space. there way fix this? kind of new indesign not have skills figure out. document has many more formulas , sure hope can show me how. next way make autocorrect common formulas if type hco3- autocorrect proper format.

thanks.

there thread while ago issue discussed. i'll see if can locate it. 1 way move - above 3 use negative kerning. tested , did -440 kerning. easiest way increase/decrease kerning place cursor before character , click alt + right (or left) arrow key (windows).

(if need move - can baseline shift in character panel.)
