Mac Pro Trashcan is Trash

i did post in premiere forum. apologize posting here also, wanted make sure got as possible users of adobe premiere , ae. here goes.

 

like purchased mac pro trashcan performance in video editing (premiere , after effects), extremely disappointed of problems, noticeably performance getting 5 thousand dollar system. have decided list computer on ebay , cross fingers.

 

here question.

 

should bite bullet , switch pc? or can superior performance beefed mac pro 5,1 2012 model?

 

i have been researching , seems can them pcie ssd hard drives, nvidia titan cards (and quadro of course) loaded ram. seems best processor can in these things dual 3.46 ghz 6-core (12 total) xeon (westmere) processors. seems may bit out-dated. thoughts?

 

i keep stability of osx system , of course of apps/files/workflow, etc minimal downtime restoring time machine backup.

 

could see more significant boost in performance going pc or should give mac pro 5,1 shot?

 

my budget around $5k. have plenty of external drives , raids. stick osx. advice or suggestions? kind of looking @

this real 5,1 mac pro, not modified 2009 model. has been maxed out 12-core 3.46ghz (x5690 3.73ghz turbo boost) , 128gb of 1333mhz registered ecc ram.

 

the main drive super fast 960gb pcie flash solid state. along ssd, there 4 4tb 7200rpm hard drives. massive 17tb total storage capacity, plus 2 6gb/s esata ports external storage.

 

the graphics card 12gb geforce gtx titan x, mac compatible. card can drive 4 displays simultaneously. there dual-link dvi, 3 displayports, , hdmi. 3072 cuda cores!

 

the standard ports include 2 gigabit ethernet, 5 usb 2.0, 4 firewire 800, , optical digital audio in/out. powered four-port usb 3.0 card included, along airport wireless , bluetooth modules.

 

i havent had pc since 2012 kind of rusty new hardware technology. willing go pc better performing machine $5k trashcan bane of existence. advice.

you can pc same specs less money - if grab used parts off of ebay boost up. have 1 that's similar specs (minus gpu - mine has 2 quadros instead) less $800. got used dell off of ebay , added cheap used parts or things on sale on amazon. works great!

 

windows 7 , windows 10 have both been stable me - not windows of yore. people think windows crashy living in past. i've had same number of issues on macs on pc's lately. (actually, more issues on mac, honest.)

 

these days, not purchase mac workstation. seem snubbing professional market offerings. have macbook pro traveling, can't justify cost of mac pros compared performance.

 

that being said, you're talking buying used 1 before went nutso workstations, let's @ specs after effects point of view (you'll have ask in premiere forum thoughts).

 

i don't think processors outdated. desktop processors aren't improving used to. 12 cores @ 3.46 ghz pretty working in cinema 4d (which comes free ae), etc. want higher clock speed many things single-core in of apps , want bunch of cores things benefit it. that's choice!

 

gpu doesn't matter in current version of ae unless use obsolete ray-traced renderer. now, if use element or other third-party plugins render on gpu, it's different story. graphics card pretty fantastic 1 element, example, might see if new nvidia cards (1080) better choice. more bang buck if they'll work in workstation. beat titans on things despite costing less. say, having 4 monitors while working awesome, keep in mind.

 

in general, recommend getting 2 ssd's; 1 os, software, etc. , 1 ae's cache, long have couple hundred gb available use ae's cache on main ssd, should okay. , remember, want keep 20% of hard drive free. need have @ least 400 gb free on system once install , let ae use 200 gb of cache.

 

you've got more ram you'll need in workstation. enjoy it!

 

so, guess i'm saying machine you're looking @ okay, can spend $4,000 less , have similar experience on pc.
