Smooth gradients and feathers in PDF/X-1a ?

hello folks,

 

i have learned hard way i should send pdf/x-1a files suppliers, do. issue indesign doesn't seem use kind of dithering when rasterising solid or transparent gradients.

 

is missing feature or doing wrong ?

 

for now, generate gradients , complex transparency effects in photoshop , import them in indesign, work large files , has negative impact on flexibility requires go , forth between 2 apps (saving , updating large files again , again).

 

i tried generating pdf transparency , flattening acrobat no luck, may using wrong ? when send such pdf file suppliers either flatten it, introducing image banding (and using jpeg compression, further reduces colour depth, in subtle bright gradients), or try rip right away, seems rather subjective task because 2 suppliers won't interpret same file same way.

 

any ideas ?
