Sluggish playback on basic edits.

i'm experiencing jumpy playback , slow response times on basic edits. i'm using range of footage fs700 , phantom 4 occasional gopro , dslr. shoot d-log , flat. use 2.7k/4k footage scaled down on 1080p timeline.

my edits use 1 or 2 video channels , few audio channels although bit of grading , colour correction go feel how things look.

however timelines quite unworkable in nothing plays smoothly , it's hard cuts right when things jumping lot.

my set follows:

windows 10 pro 64 bit

3.30 gigahertz intel core i7-5820k

32gb memory

asus x99-a motherboard (hex core)

nvidia geforce gtx 970 (with cuda selected)

250gb ssd (system)

3tb 7200rpm drive (media)

2tb 7200rpm drive (previews)

2.7k aoc monitor

1080p benq monitor

i've tried transcoding dnxhd little better until started using colour tools , played blur on until rendered it. plus adds time workflow , i'd rather not have if it's not necessary.

am missing something? surely system should able deal edits i'm throwing @ it?

you have pretty setup there. what's resolution of program monitor set to? didn't mention, that's thing can think of, if pm isn't filling screen, , if main monitor 1080 one, don't need have full res playback.

other things slow machine down if have scopes open, although gpu-accelerated now, shouldn't issue, didn't mention version of premiere you're on. also, driving second display 2.7k 1 requires gpu resources, it's possible spreading gpu thin. there still lot of unknowns. it's possible single 7200 rpm media drive isn't fast enough streaming media. though you're on 1080p timeline you're still pushing 2.7k , 4k footage through single sata drive , then scaling down. perhaps need move raid or ssds media (yeah, because can afford 3tb worth of ssds )  when transcoded dnxhd, did keep same resolution or scale down?
