when importing video , audio adobe premiere pro, processes versions of these files can readily access faster performance. these referred "media cache" files. these stored in media cache files folder. in addition, there folder containing database, retains links each of media cache files. these referred "media cache database" files. located in media cache folder.

 

note: there delay in proper audio , video playback while newly imported media being processed , cached. a progress bar in lower right of application shows progress of media cache being processed.

 

where these files stored?

 

sometimes, these cache folders large, or contain corrupt file, need know locate them deletion. default, both cache files (in media cache files folder) , media cache database files (in media cache folder) stored in these locations:

 

mac: /users//library/application support/adobe/common

windows: \users\<username>\appdata\roaming\adobe\common

 

you can change media cache location under preferences > media in premiere pro

 

how clean media cache files?

 

in order clean (or "trash") media cache, can delete these files. premiere pro closed, navigate location of these folders , delete files manually. after delete files, empty trash.

 

note: deleting files manually premiere pro closed deletes current media cache files, well, want when troubleshooting errors.

 

there 'clean' option in preferences > media too, deletes cache files associated files not being used.

 

after deleting files, should see additional hard drive space become available, media cache files can take significant space. if have older projects have completed, idea delete these files save storage space , keep computer's hard drive tidier.

 

keep in mind delay occurs after delete cache files , open current project files need time rebuild. if have large project, budget enough time media cache files rebuild. can done overnight, example.
