Can not make a simple clipping mask from text

i've done before, though of sudden not working.

 

- type text

- make outlines out of text

- drag image ai

- send the image back

- select both , choose object > make clipping mask

- nothing shows in text , image disappears

 

what doing wrong? tried on 2 macs, , these same steps have worked me previously.

i tried this, , found got same result.

 

the solution select text after outlining, , go object > compound path > make.

your outlined text @ point lose fill , stroke, work make clipping mask.
