Using PSE from two computers

hi,

 

i have default catalog on c drive, references on 8,000 photos on nas. have been using pse several years now. version 8.

 

i want provide access wife's laptop , reading in forum, appears should backup catalog "external drive" , restore it.

 

however not clear if work nas (rather external drive). not clear if process backup photos, not want happen.

 

so decided @ least try backup see happens. when clicked file>backup catalog, pse hung without offering dialogue box. so:

 

1     can pse carry out backup catalog action?

 

2     if backup of catalog nas worked can prevent copying photos?

 

3     able connect wife's laptop catalog?

 

4     if answer above "no", upgrading pse version 14 solve these problems?

 

5     able upgrade version 8 catalog version 14?

 

i have 64 bit laptop running windows 10 (upgraded last week).

first practical answer:

if pictures files , catalog on external drive instead of nas, can work alternatively on both computers , ready drive plugged in.

when backup , restore on external drive, catalog , pictures on external drive.

the backup process of organizer save catalog , pictures.

you can find catalog (menu file >> system information) , copy folder want (as backup or syncing). has done explorer. supposing transfer present catalog folder other computer, recognize nas same? don't know, if works, nas should mapped same way on both computers.

only explorer, not catalog manager in organizer.

i don't think can work catalog folder stored on nas (for macs, can't store catalogs on nas). think have read reports copying catalog folder second computer work. have no way test.

yes.

 

i think can test yourself. 1 thing sure, if can work catalog on c: drive , pictures on nas, should able full backup (catalog , pictures) external drive. that's pretty common: sharing external usb drive , using nas backups only. first thing troubleshoot why backup not start in case.
