Creating a repeat pattern in adobe illustrator creative cloud

ok, here's deal.  have made repeat patterns before in illustrator , want more....and have success in basic "trial" ones, minute create pretty 1 , have 4 sides of square correct pattern repeating horizontally , vertically, select background square, click command c, command b , make sure fill , stroke empty.  select illustration background , drag swatch window, , when go @ result, (creating rectangle) pattern comes bunch of empty space on 4 sides....like there blank cross in middle of pattern swatch.  doesn't happen when try on basic pattern, happen when work hours on neat illustrations , same thing.  waaaah.  help!  someone????

Sizing images of multiple resolutions for print on a page of one resolution

this may basic photoshop question betrays lack of experience digital workspace, i'd know how lay out multiple images of varying resolutions on 300 ppi page intended print.   say have 3 images: 1 300 ppi, 3 x 4 inches,  4 x 5 inches, 900 ppi , third 4 x 5 inches, 600 ppi.   i've created single page 300 ppi, 8 x 10 inches. images fit, physical size. when drop 600 ppi , 900 ppi images page, blow twice , 3 times space, spoiling efforts lay them out. similarly, if cut ppi on higher-ppi images 300, blow well.   the possible option see might work resample/bicubic automatic. wouldn't reduce quality of image?   thanks! an image file single file no matter how many layers , images , image sizes  in there 1 resolution 1 resolution layers  , images have same resolution setting current resolution set document or file.   you can process image file , save out files have different resolution , different image size open image.  batch using photoshop  im...
