Help with arrays

i'm spending eternity trying figure out how perform simple action, hope can me.

 

i want use javascript create list of comma-separated text values, , display 1 of these values (according position). know how display when there's 1 value in variable - think requires array.

 

example:

var = animal

the values are:  cat, dog, snake

and want

setvariablevalue  "animal" display second value ("dog").

 

i've been learning javascript, can't adapt of examples work captivate.

2: how write javascript gets 1 of values out of array , writes captivate variable.
