Will changing the Image Size, then closing without saving, cause destructive editing?

hello,

 

i doing website artist, continuously use original paintings (very large files sent me). use them in various places, in various sizes throughout web layout. each time need image, open original, image > image size, reducing , resampling drastically. drag image, (reduced) ps file working on (rather resizing in destination file). close original image, , "no" saving changes. next time need it, file "original" again , resize accordingly destination files needs.

 

am doing "destructive editing" original each time this, though not saving changes? have folder of "original" images stored never touched if causing issue.

if not save file remains unchanged. change date of file should indicate much.

 

but placing image (file > place embedded) , rasterising smart object if necessary might more efficient.
