Area Type options dialog box will not allow me to resize text box, please help!

hello - using latest version of adobe illustrator cc on windows 7. need make text box columns @ 32.875 w x 20 h. use type tool, draw box @ size , open "area type options" dialog box in order specify column number, gutter width etc. , automatically resizes text box area 13.888 w x 13.889 h without fail. try type correct width , height appropriate space , windows "error" sound. when click "preview" shows me text box resized 13.888x13.999 can't see i'm doing. infuriating, please, has else had problem?

 

i checked "transformation" window - , "lock" constrain width , height proportion "unlocked".

ai has limit width of type columns have found. size want, have manually.
