Error: There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be opened

this appears old problem. have done investigation online , still not sure do. can help.

 

i created pdf in adobe pro x, included fields users type in, , save button. users open in adobe reader x have no issues. users open in adobe reader 9 have no issues. however, users open adobe reader 9 find can type document, save it, when try open document again, error 'there error opening document. file damaged , not repaired'.

 

the answer seem to tell users upgrade version x. however, client users work cannot upgrade version x. stuck version 9.

 

i have read taking steps ensure %pdf @ start of header. don't know how don't think that's issue other people can open fine.

 

i have read explorer 6 can cause issues. client using explorer 6. upgrading soon...but many users stuck version 6 now.

 

i have read though when optimise pdf , choose drop down box make compatible version 7 , above, doesn't mean won't error.

 

therefore, option create pdf using adobe acrobat 9? if created in 9, surely open in 9 ok? right in thinking that?

follow thread reset preferences acrobat software :- how reset preference settings in acrobat.

then open acrobat, navigate menu & repair installation.

would know happening documents or 1 .

please try recreate document & check  .

also please refer kb article :- resolve damaged document error when opening pdf files
