Shading without Progressive Darkening with Extra Strokes


awhile back, somehow managed accomplish this, can't remember how. i'm trying shade portion of background image. create new layer, , choose color, , 25% opacity. if let go of mouse button, , apply shading on area shaded, gets progressively darker each stroke. settings use able go on same area again without initial shading color changing? know able before. help.

try this:

 

  1. open picture file
  2. open blank layer above , fill 50% gray. set blending mode overlay
  3. activate brush tool , set brush 20-25% opacity (experiment)
  4. paint black, white, color on area designated "shading"
